Kilchurn Castle with fog and pre-dawn lake reflections, Argyll and Bute, Scotland

Argyll and Bute, Scotland

Ghost Story

Kilchurn Castle in the pre-dawn fog and twilight.

We woke up extra early, around 4:15 AM, got ready, and drove a little over an hour south to the location. The stunning ruins of the 15th century castle sit on a peninsula at the head of Loch Awe. We positioned ourselves to the southeast of the castle, across the loch, so we could capture its reflection in the water. The air was perfectly still and the castle was shrouded in fog off the water. The pre-dawn light was blue and purple, giving the scene an eerie feeling that seemed to fit the old ruins.
