Rushing waterfall outside of Yellowstone

Greater Yellowstone, Wyoming

Beartooth Cascade

We were driving the Beartooth with family, following one of those audio tours that narrates the highway as you go, and it told us to pull off at Lake Creek Falls. From the old bridge, it’s already worth the stop — the creek drops through a channel of dark rock with spruce crowding in on both banks, and you get the whole thing from the railing.

I wanted to be under it instead of over it. The rocks below the bridge are steep and slick. It isn’t far down, but it isn’t a walk either, and I went one hold at a time. From down there, the water fills the frame instead of sitting in it — the wall on the right running orange with lichen, spruce closing off the top, whitewater coming at the lens rather than away from it.
