Salmon Dreams
After spending the day watching brown bears work the river for salmon, I came across one who had clearly decided that he'd done enough for the day. He was stretched out on a river island, completely at ease, his enormous body relaxed after what appeared to have been a very successful meal.
I moved in close with the camera, looking for the details that made the moment feel almost intimate: the relaxed expression, the heavy body, and the unmistakable look of a bear who has absolutely nowhere else he needs to be. After all that effort in the river, he seemed perfectly content to let the world pass by while he slept.
I called the photograph Salmon Dreams because you can almost imagine what he's dreaming about—and given the circumstances, I'd guess there's still a salmon or two involved.
