Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge sits at the northeast edge of the Great Salt Lake, where the river spreads out into marsh before it reaches the water. It's one of the major stopovers on the Pacific Flyway, and in late winter the bald eagles are still working the impoundments.

Wildlife never owes you anything. You drive the loop and some mornings you get nothing at all. This was the first day of March, early, my buddy driving and me in the passenger seat with the window down. Two eagles came up over the marsh together. One held its line. The other peeled off toward us and dropped, coming in low and level just above the reeds, and I had a few seconds to make it work.

Shot at 720mm and 1/4000 to hold the wings clean. The previous season's growth was still standing dry and gold across the flats, the sky flat white behind it, and the eagle the only dark thing in the frame.

Limited Edition Print

Editions & certificates

Each image is released as a limited edition of 50 — that's 50 pieces total, across every size and every finish combined, not 50 of each. When an edition closes, that image is retired and never offered as a print again. A few signature images are released in smaller editions.

Outside that count, I keep one Artist's Proof of each image for myself. It's occasionally available by private request, at a premium.

Every piece is numbered and comes with a matching signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Paper prints are signed by hand before they ship; the face-mounted pieces travel straight from the lab to you, so the certificate carries the signature rather than the panel.

As an edition sells down, the price steps up. The earliest pieces of an edition carry the lowest price.

Lumachrome Face-mounted to TruLife acrylic
