A waterfall in Yellowstone National Park, worked in black and white so the falling water reads as a single continuous shape against the dark canyon

Yellowstone National Park

Flow State

I stood above the Upper Falls of the Yellowstone River as the river thundered through the canyon at full flow. Light filtered through the lodgepole pines, catching portions of the water and leaving others in deep shadow. Farther downstream, the arched bridge added a quiet human element to an otherwise wild scene.

I processed the photograph in black and white to strip away the distractions of color and emphasize the contrast between the rushing river, the dark forest, and the textured rock of the canyon. To me, it felt like a quintessential piece of Americana—a place where our infrastructure exists alongside something that remains stubbornly untamed.
