Arcadia

Dogwood Canyon is a private park, well maintained and easy to reach, which means it fills up. We went early and got to the falls before the crowd, and I had time to work the shot without anyone in the frame. By late morning the place was busy.

The falls sits near the canyon entrance, dropping over limestone bluffs in a stack of tiers. It was summer and running full, so every ledge had water on it. I shot a 2:1 vertical panorama to take the whole thing in from the pool at the base up to the top tiers disappearing into the trees. The exposure smoothed the water into ribbons. Late morning light, but the canyon walls and the tree cover kept it soft, and the limestone came out cream and tan and rust against all the summer green growing out of every crack in the bluff.

We did the safari tour afterward for the rest of the canyon. More waterfalls, a lot of wildlife, and the history of the place, which is worth hearing.
