Cathedral Gorge State Park, Nevada
Twin Suns
I was exploring Cathedral Gorge when I came across a scene that felt almost completely removed from Earth. The landscape was a maze of pale clay spires and narrow formations, stripped of almost all color and texture except for the soft, fading light. Above it, the sky had taken on an eerie purple cast, making the whole place feel strangely unfamiliar.
I couldn't help but think of Tatooine—a landscape from another world, where the familiar rules of Earth seem slightly out of place. I framed the spires to emphasize their strange, sculptural forms and the vastness of the sky, imagining that I was looking across an alien landscape rather than a desert in the American Southwest.
I called the photograph Twin Suns because, for a moment, Cathedral Gorge felt like it belonged on a world far, far away. All it needed was another sun hanging in that strange purple sky.
