Overlook of the Vermillion Cliffs in northern Arizona at sunset

Vermilion Cliffs, Arizona

Meltdown

Another shot from an overlook in the Vermilion Cliffs, this dreamscape of melted, twisting columns of stone has interest wherever you look. This particular section displays the intricacies of what the mixing of minerals, heat, pressure, and time can create.

It’s always hard to capture the true impact and feeling of experiencing a jaw-dropping landscape in person—and that was particularly true here—but hopefully I’ve done it at least partial justice with this photograph.
