Aspen, Colorado
The Crown
The Maroon Bells are two peaks in the Elk Mountains, Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak, separated by about half a kilometer. They’re also one of the most photographed mountain ranges in the country, and it’s not hard to see why.
This photo was taken at sunrise in September. There was a drought that year so the water level was lower than normal, but the aspens were gloriously golden yellow and the 14,000 foot twin peaks caught the alpenglow beautifully.
