The Narrows Virgin River in Zion National Park

Zion National Park, Utah

Eldritch Lair

The Narrows is the narrowest section of Zion Canyon. With walls a thousand feet tall and the river sometimes just twenty feet wide, there is a sense of weight and pressure that builds. I found this section of the wall particularly sinister, with deep, smooth carvings that resembled something like a giant arachnid skull. The foreboding was softened by the young and vibrant maple growing in one of the indentions.
