Kauai, Hawaii

Harvest Approaching

Taro fields on Kauai, Hawaii, coming up on harvest. Taro is a tropical root vegetable and is a major food staple for Pacific Island cultures. It’s grown in flooded wetland fields like the ones pictured here, just west of Princeville on the north side of Kauai. I love the geometry of the fields in the jungle valley, as the storm clouds roll in above — as they often do on the north side of the island.
